Secret Garden Project

Sarah Butler - Writer in Residence 2010 - Word Garden

1 May 2010 - 1 June 2011

Sarah Butler is creating a series of short literary works that respond both to the Secret Garden Project art commissions from her own unique perspective, and to audiences' responses to a series of debate-prompting questions relating to green issues posed by Butler when she visited the commissions and encountered people along the way.  Her literary responses are hosted on her Word Garden Blog. The blog is a 'garden of words' and visitors can contribute to it and follow Butler's finely-crafted writing.

Butler also developed a number of larger literary projects presented as participatory events for the general public.  The first of which coincided with the London Fieldworks Spontaneous City in the Tree of Heaven project in Islington & Chelsea.  See the events page for more information.

Butler writes about people and the relationships between them; inspired by unexpected meetings and complicated interactions, places and people's relationship to the places they live, work and breathe in.  As well as writing, she runs a consultancy called UrbanWords which manages literature based projects that engage with the process of urban regeneration.
