20 May 2010. Big Dance Bubble: Portavilion launch with Siobhan Davies Dance and Sadler's Wells

ROSY the bubble pavilion launched its tour at Potters Fields Park in Southwark, next to City Hall, with a bespoke dance performance created by David Harradine of Fevered Sleep, a company that makes dance, theatre and visual art for children and for adults, and are internationally acclaimed for performance work for children. 
A choreographic workshop took place in the bubble that challenged local dance practitioners to create a new dance work that responded to the space. In the evening the bubble came alive through projected animations by Fat Butcher, and music by raumlaborberlin.
Fevered Sleep have been commissioned by Siobhan Davies Dance and Sadler’s Wells and this event is the first of five dance events taking place in the Bubble as part of the T-Mobile Big Dance festival.

Pre-booked performances are at 1.30 & 2pm; open performance at 3pm.

05 Jun 2010. The Dancers Bubble with East London Dance

Dancers, choreographers and other dance professionals took over the bubble to host discussions, debates and master classes for East London’s dance community. During the day the bubble became an open space for debate - where is dance today and where should it be in the future? From 7pm it heated up and became an ‘open mic’ jam session. Tasty refreshments were available throughout the day, so whether you had a hot topic for debate, wanted to soak up the dance scene in East London, or had itchy feet and wanted to dance, you could spend the day in the Dancer’s Bubble.

2 – 4pm The Big Debate
The heavy weight of London's dance scene, bursted the Bubble with some creative discussions and debates.

7-10pm Mixed Movement
An open stage for dancers in any style is took over this incredibly unique location. Presented by DawN Crandall (host) and Baba Israel (live music), Mixed Movement is the ultimate freestyle dance experience. Sit back and watch the breath-taking creativity of improvised dance from soloists and newly formed double acts.

A bespoke new performance created by design led performance art organisation Fevered Sleep led audiences through the pavilion in unexpected ways. The newly choreographed dance performance, commissioned by Sadler’s Wells and Siobhan Davies Dance, was made specifically for the bubble and was presented throughout the day in the picturesque grounds of Bruce Castle as part of Tottenham Carnival. The performance was accompanied by live music and tours of the pavilion.

At the Waltham Forest Green Fair, the Portavilion bubble will provide a visual focus for exploring art and ecology, creating a special
space to explore, create and have fun in a “Talking Garden” environment of performance, music and installation. The Green Fair is Waltham Forest’s greenest celebration. You can browse the arts, crafts and environmental stalls or join the Echo City industrial waste orchestra. Giant tubular bells fashioned from scrap streetlamps, drums made from storage barrels and a Batphone made from yellow gas main pipes. Recycling can be fun!

ROSY the bubble will visit Tate Modern as part of the London Festival of Architecture and host a discussion about the structure, its architecture and use between Matthias Rick of raumlabor and UP Projects’ Emma Underhill, Portavilion curator. Chaired by Sarah Ichioka, director of The Architecture Foundation.

raumlabor’s bubble will host a variety of dance workshops and performances throughout the afternoon as part of a vibrant, free programme of dance, theatre, circus and music. This celebratory afternoon out is presented by Greenwich Council and curated by Greenwich Dance and Greenwich Theatre to animate the beautiful grounds of Greenwich’s iconic Eltham Palace and Gardens.

commission by the acclaimed Fevered Sleep with movement, live music and lots of bouncing balls; belly dancing; Latin and
ballroom dancing demos and workshops; and an explosive new dance piece from Etta Ermini – Roadworks – involvingbreakdancing, busking and a BMX!

In Stratford Park the bubble will be occupied by Caught by the River’s Roam project to promote a slower pace of life for people living in the fi ve Olympic Host Boroughs, encouraging an engagement with the world outside their doors and provide informal lessons in how to get the most out of the area the residents live in. The event will include nature based acoustic gigs and audio installations using found sounds from the locality; author readings and lectures on the natural environment. Roam by Robin Turner is a CREATE Art Award sponsored by the Bank of America Merill Lynch.

For one night only in Gillett Square, the bubble will be transformed into a temporary cinema presenting short films from Hackney Archives and Dalston’s Rio cinema; artists’ animations brought to the programme by the Drawing Room; a film about the first British feminist and Hackney resident Mary Wollstonecraft by Hackney based Fragments & Monuments film and performance company, and a dance-film exploring Dalston’s public spaces, made by local residents and East London Dance.  The bubble will also come alive with projections on its surface.

During the day, the Portavilion bubble will play host to a Hackney Museum workshop and a variety of musical performances by local groups.

Explore objects from the Museum’s handling collection and tell us about your stories and our mysterious objects.

Artists Rod Morris and Heather McDonough will also be setting up a portable photographic studio in the square to record members of the public as part of their ongoing project Faces about recording East Londoner’s in a variety of locations.

Hackney Museum is running Mapping the Change, a project that sets out to record the changes in the borough of Hackney in the lead up to the 2010 Olympics. They are collecting memories, experiences and responses to the greatest historic change in Dalston since World War Two.

Sabira Jade UK soulstress currently working with the likes of DJ Vadim / Hexstatic/ Paper Tiger goes solo for this stripped down unique set. 

Heather McClell
 Fresh, distinctive vocalist heather McClell seamlessly fuses a variety of styles, all held together by her stunning vocals and outstanding accompanist. Her flirt with Latin music began when she recorded her debut album in Sao Paulo in collaboration with some of Brazil's leading musicians. Her sound encapsulates a delicate mix of musical styles including Bossa Nova, Folk and Trip Hop. Prepare to be captivated by her charismatic performance.

The Royal Parks invite 35 key arts organisations from across Westminster and The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea to ‘set-up stall’ in Kensington Gardens at FUSE; a one-day showcase of the wealth of creative opportunities for young people to get involved in and be inspired by. BAFTA, ENO, Tate, Soho Theatre, V&A, Serpentine Gallery and many more will present new work, performances, play writing, visual arts, drumming, carnival costumes, contemporary dance, film making and computer games. At FUSE, bubble will host workshops and performances from some of the leading arts organisations on Kensington Gardens’ doorstep.

The Royal Parks invites the bubble to The Regents Park on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th August, filling it with creative projects led by the Roundhouse. Young people aged 12–19 years can sign up to take part in a range of different activities including drama, photography, spoken word, stage combat or creative treasure hunts. All activities will be part of Camden’s Secret London initiative and project participants will have the opportunity to explore The Regent’s Park and its colourful history. There will be a showcase performance at the end of each day at 4.30pm.

The Portavilion bubble goes to The Mix in Burgess Park with artists Juneau Projects and Tate Modern. The Mix is a festival celebrating young people and families created, planned and attended by young people in Southwark. With high profile artists performing alongside local fresh new talent, jazz, funk, grime, hip-hop, R’n’B, indie, rock and classical there’s something for every taste. But it’s not just music. The Mix is also fi lm, heritage, sport, healthy living, entrepreneurship, markets, fun fair, poetry slams and a huge carnival parade. Contemporary artists Juneau Projects will occupy ROSY inspired activities that explore the link between nature and new technology.

Juneau Projects focus on maverick music making; collaborating with young people to create songs, outfits and customised instruments. Mixing traditional crafts and customs with new technologies, from digitally generated wood carvings to woodland-themed computer games, they synthesise the old and new, city and countryside, into their own expression of folk art for the modern age.
