The Other flower Show: UP Projects

The Other Flower Show brings together a group of International, contemporary artists and designers who each explore the formal and conceptual qualities of flowers, gardens and nature as a basis for art installations. Each artist has been invited to transform the interior of a garden shed to create bespoke, individual installations for the V&A garden, offering a creative and conceptual alternative to the traditional flower and garden show.

There is something quintessentially English about a garden shed that implies so much more than a simple garden storage solution; shelter at a rainy garden party, a workshop for an amateur enthusiast, a place of solace, retreat or perhaps something more untoward... As the premise for this exhibition, the garden shed functions as a uniform "container" for each installation. How they respond to the structure and its inherent implications is for the individual artist to decide.

The Other Flower Show takes art out of the gallery and flowers out of the greenhouse. From the sublime, to the scientific, the subversively humorous to the multifaceted and conceptual, each installation offers a different experience. Some are interactive, while others offer a glimpse, from the door or window, into an entirely different world.
